Campbell College, Belfast
Ugh! It was totally horrible. Thanks for a really creepy night Blue Moon!
What we did
The Old Campbellians sure know how to party and Campbell College is the perfect setting for a really ghoulish Hallowe'en experience. The school is not dissimilar to Harry Potter's Hogwarts and lends itself perfectly to a Blue Moon night of cobwebs, oversized rubber rodents and hanging bodyparts. Revellers had their first taste of anxiety in the main entrance hall which was strangled with cobwebs, giant man-eating spiders and up-lit in terrible green. As the old boys got sentimental over dinner in the school dining hall; the tall imposing stone fireplace groaned and creaked with the skulls and bones of ancient souls while a hundred church candles flickered hesitantly in the deep window sills.
Much later, the dancing kicked off in the Chapel with its high vaulted ceiling, where bloodstained muslin drapes hung from the rafters, joined by a row of ghastly cocooned cadavers and peering gargoyles. The mood was lightened (only a little) with jolly iron pumpkin lanterns lined up on rows of trestle tables and more hideous green up-lighting. Having said all this, the gorgeous wives, girlfriends and well stocked bar provided a welcome relief to all the horror!
