Down Royal Racecourse, Co. Down
Thank you very much for the garden, it was a fantastic success!
What we did
This was a really fun commission: to create a garden on the tarmac directly opposite the finishing post of the Down Royal Racecourse. Our only constraint was to leave enough space for the BBC Outside Broadcasting lorry to be able to drive through the garden periodically! First of all, we laid two lengths of very realistic, very heavy artificial grass onto the tarmac (it took 6 men to lift the roll) and applied a special jointing seal along the middle. Sections of white picket fencing were screwed into the ground which also helped to secure the edges of the grass. Artificial but very realistic ivy and trailing foliage was attached to the fencing and we brought in 7ft tall obelisks and extra large antiqued urns with topiary boxwood balls to lend some formality to the layout of the garden. With the furniture added and several thousand race-goers later, the atmosphere was tremendous!
